Those people trying to sell their home who purchased their homes during this unprecedented increase are in trouble. Because the market decreased, they owe the bank more than the home can sell for. In the cases where the bank did not approve the short sale, or the homeowner just stopped paying their mortgage due to a financial hardship, many of the homes were foreclosed upon. Because home values are low, and the interest rates have dropped, there has never been a better time to buy a home. The U.S. Government is also offering eight-thousand dollars for first time home buyers. If you are a first time homebuyer, in order to take advantage of this free government money, you must close on your home prior to October 2009.
